Yellowknife man assaulted by suspect wearing ski mask

A Yellowknife man is in hospital in Edmonton after he was assaulted on Gitzel Street early Saturday morning.

RCMP say the 48-year-old man was walking along Gitzel Street near Albatross Court between about 2:15 and 2:45 a.m. when he was allegedly beaten by a suspect described as tall and heavy set, wearing a black jacket and ski mask.

The victim sustained injuries to his head and face and a broken leg. He was transported to Stanton Territorial Hospital and later medevaced to Edmonton.

The suspect was reported to have fled on foot in the direction of the Frame Lake Trail towards downtown. RCMP brought in the G Division police dog to assist but did not find the suspect.

RCMP are investigating and ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the detachment.
