Family members in the central Newfoundland community of Lewisporte are mourning the shocking death of a 13-year-old girl in Sweden.

The body of Hannah Bennet was found Saturday in an alleyway in Taby, a suburb of Stockholm.

Two suspects ?brothers aged 28 and 31 ?were arrested within a half hour of the killing.

"It's the worst thing that ever could have happened in this wide, wide world," said Bennet's great aunt, Bridget Miles, who spoke to CBC News from her home in Lewisporte, NL.

Hannah's mother, Tanya, moved to Sweden from Newfoundland 21 years ago. She had two other children.

Tanya Bennet had been out at a movie, said Miles, when she arrived home to discover her home was the scene of a horrible crime.

"Everybody that knows Tanya is shocked," said Miles. "It's unbelievable. [Hannah] was brutally murdered."

Miles said Tanya has been sedated by doctors since Saturday.

Students and staff at Hannah's school have placed candles and flowers by a flagpole on her school yard in her honour.
